The Location (Jodie)

As our idea for the film opening is partly situated in a public toilet, I (Jodie) went round our local towns researching each of the public toilet facilites evaluating whether they would be ideal for the final location. Below is what I found out about each toilet.

Outside The Angel Centre (Tonbridge)
These public toilets are quite small therefore filming space may be an issue however its quite away from the town so i can imagine not many people will walk in and out. But the main problem with these toilets is that it has the new 3 in 1 sinks instead of the tradition ones iwth taps. This is a problem because we need a continous flow of water as well as an authentic look ot hte toilet. Also the mirror was not above the sink and this is a vital necessity for the final shot.

Toilets By Tonbridge swimming pool
These toilets faults are teh same as the above. It also has one of the 3 in 1 sinks as well asthe mirror being in the wrong place. Also the whole facility itself is quite dark even with lights on so extra lighting will be needed. But the entrance to the toilet leads directly towards the sinks which is helpful when filming the part where the third person walks in.

Toilets by Station/ Lidl (Tonbridge)
the first thing I noticed was hte level of sound created by the traffic.Even with the door closed it will be picked up on camera. Als once again it did not have a classic sink with taps or a clear mirror. A mirror was present but it was very as it wasnt glass but metal. However the whole building itself was quite large and because of the frosetd windows there was lots of natural light.

Sevenoaks bus Station
Out of the ones I looked at today, i found this to bo the worst choice of location. Because it is a bus station there was a lot of noise which was quite echoey however the echoe can make the sound more daunting. But there was no mirror and opening times were quite limited. Finally the 3 in 1 sink was present once again.

Tesco (Riverhead)
in my opinion Tesco had hte best facilties so far because it was the only tolet with the old style sinks as well as having a mirror above them. Also the room is very big therefore enough room for filming. Although it was cleaner than the rest, this can easily be changed. There was also plenty of warm lighting however if this location was chosen we will need to obtain permission from Tesco.

Overall the main issue faced was the advancement in techonolgy when it came to finding the right sink with a mirror. Although these seem small attributes they are vital to our story line. Also whatever location we do end up picking seeking permission to use it will be an issue. Tomorrow i plan to look the 2 remaining locations i didnt look at today and then upload the photos for readers to judge for themselves. Please post any comments or suggestion of public toilets which I could look at

Storyline (Group idea - Typed up by Thea and Jodie)

Here is the basic outline to our 2 minute clip inrtoducing our psychological thriller movie.

It starts with a pitch black screen with the diagetic noise of footsteps at a very fast pace to display they are running. Then there are snapshots of body parts, very close up to give the impression they are Crime scene investigation photos. It will be unclear to the viewer what is being photographed until there is a long shot of the body. whilst this is going on, there will be a diagetic sound of a heart beat made through the base and drum beats to display the panic of this person as their pace will also quicken.

Then there will also be non-diagetic sound of a telephone conversation going on between a dog walker and emergency services. The dog walker will be the character that discovers the dead female in the photos. suddenly as the music and the pictures come to a climax the title will appear on a black screen and the title will be white and fuzzy but will then come into focus.

This will cut to a close up of the main male characters (protagonist) eyes with a paniced look. This will then zoom out slightly to focus on his face accompanied by heavy breathing and there will be sweat dripping off his forehead. There will then be a shot that will display this guy running. There will then be a point of view shot of the protagonist looking at his hand and he will notice a spot of blood/mud on his hand. He runs into a female character walking down the street and the camera switches to mid-two shot and the camera displays her reaction of annoyance and confusion to him. She then continues her journery down the road.

The protagonist then runs into the toilet and there is a match on action of his entrance into this toilet. As he enters the toilet there will be a high angle shot looking at him frantically rushhing towards the sinks still looking at his hands. This then goes to a point of view shot of him looking at his hands whilst standing near the sink the amount of blood/mud has greatly increased and it is now completely covering his hands. The protagonist then starts to frantically wash his hands in the sink but it seems none of it is coming off.

The camera then changes to a mid shot including male character B, who has just walked into the toilet, the audience then realises that there is nothing on the protagonists hands and that it is all in his mind. Then male character B, questions if the protagonist is okay, as he is still frantically washing his hands. He is frightened by the ecentric behaviiour and walks out.

The camera then switches a point of view shot of the protagonist looking at his hands and then he looks up to the mirror and the music has come to a climax and that audience see in the mirror relection the blood is all over his face, man starts to scream but the shot finishs halfway though as it cuts to black.

Post comments about the idea or questions if confusion occurs (this is most likely)

Getting started (Thea)

Just to start it off..

For our Media AS level we are required to do a practical excercise of 2 minutes for an opening of a film.
We have decided to do a psychological thriller.
The Media group (Kathy, Jodie, Jakob and Thea) will be updating this blog each week so everyone (and us!) can keep track on our progress and we can get advice and develop our ideas.
